Unreal is the name of a game-engine by Epic that blasted into the on-line gaming scene just a few years ago. This is what most folks call a "first-person shooter"- meaning that you actually view the game from the viewpoint of the player character. (Unlike, say, Super Mario Brothers, where you are looking at a little man on the screen that is supposed to be "you.") A first-person shooter is a fully three-dimensional Virtual Reality environment. If you've ever played Wolfenstein 3D, Doom / Doom2, or Quake, then you have a general idea what Unreal is like. However, Unreal was so-named because it makes Wolfenstein and Doom2 look like bulky primitive playthings. With the advances of Raytracing and Object-Oriented Programming, the lid was literally blown off of the VR world. The program has already gone through several iterations: Unreal2, Unreal Tournament, Unreal2003, and now Unreal2004. (I personally use the Unreal Tournament engine, though we have some hope for Unreal2004.)
What made Unreal Tournament truly great was the inclusion of the "UnrealEd" map editor with every game. This is the tool used by Epic Games to create the VR environments we love to play. There were no instructions or tech support, but we managed to figure the thing out and several folks have posted tutorials. Thanks to them, I learned how to use UnrealEd myself - and now I create my own VR envirnments where folks all over the world meet and play.
The Unreal Tournament game can be found in any computer gaming store, and I think it is going for something near 10 or 15 dollars right now. It's not expensive, comes with tutorials for new players, and allows you to connect directly to the internet and start playing.
Below are links to several of the maps (environments) I have created and/or modified- where you can read descriptions, look at screenshots, and see feedback for my work. These are not the only maps I've created, but these are the only ones available for play right now on our internet server.

I am also a member of an online clan of UT (Unreal Tournament) gamers known as Clan =AirborneDeath=. We come from all over the world, but mostly from America and Canada (as far as I know). As our Clan name suggests, we specialize in air combat. UT supports several kinds of air vehicles, and =AirborneDeath= tends to specialize in three of them: the Quantum Jet (or QJet- a fighter jet armed with missles), the StrangeLove (a nuclear rocket that you literally hop onto and ride like a cowboy!), and RocketX (a kind of cross between the QJet and the StrangeLove).

I am, of course, the Clan Mapper for =AirborneDeath=. (That is why all of my maps, available on the Clan server, have the "=AD=" suffix.)
During game play, I usually appear as a skinny four-armed alien called a "Nali." (You can see a Nali in my Clan Logo to the left.)
My name in the Clan happens to be OmletteDuFromage=AD=- but my fellow clan members tend to call me Omlette. ;) I adopted the name from one of my all-time favorite cartoons: Dexters Laboratory. Simply put, "Omelette Du Fromage" is French for "Cheese Omelette." But, it sounded so much like something from the Nali language that I thought it would work great as a humorous name for a Nali soldier. So arose OmletteDuFromage=AD= (And, yes, I'm aware that Omlette is mispelled in my name- but the program only allows so many characters for a player name!)
Cave UT is a system that projects five differnt viewpoints into a small "room" (or cave) designed for the purpose. The ceiling, the floor, the wall before you and those to your right and left are screens upon which the Unreal world is projected around you.
Surround Gaming creates three different viewpoints- forward and slightly to the left and right. The resulting images can be directed to three monitors set side-by-side on a desk, or to a special wide monitor made for the purpose. It widens your field of view times three.
